Kalan Haywood's firm thrives in vanguard of city development

The Milwaukee Mall — a collection of small retailers in a former Milwaukee central city Sears store — will serve as a next chapter for fast-rising Haywood Group’s redevelopment of Milwaukee’s north and west sides and a daunting challenge all in one.

Kalan Haywood and his colleagues at Haywood Group will soon begin formulating plans for the 1920s-era multistory building and 7 acres of largely vacant surrounding property. During a tour of Haywood Group projects, the company’s operations director Albert Smith said the Haywood team is as excited about the possibilities for the vacant property near West Fond du Lac and West North avenues as for the old Sears store itself.

But Smith acknowledges the Sears store just east of the St. Ann Center for Intergenerational Care Bucyrus campus is “the big beast” on Haywood Group’s plate. Continue reading...

Judge's Ruling Clears Hurdle for Germania Building Restoration into Apartments

Three developers — Cardinal Capital Management Inc., Vangard Group LLC and Endeavour Corp. — bought the building and hoped to start restoration work early next year to convert it into apartments.
